Blaaah

Sometimes I wonder why we take holidays. Like weekends holidays seem
to thrash me much more than help me. It doesn't help that for the last
4 days I haven't done much of anything or really gone anywhere. It
would have been nice to leave for awhile, but it didn't happen this
Thanksgiving.

Number 100

So I am hitting my 100th blog post on this blog and I'm not going to
try and do anything special so sorry.

I will tell a neat experience I had today though. A guy I work with
asked if I could get him a Book of Mormon, we have been having some
conversations about beliefs and things, and he was baptized into the
church quite awhile back and thought it might be a good study to do
again.

I brought an extra book with me today and wrote a note to him on some
printer paper I grabbed on the way out of the house. The most
interesting part of the experience today was his reaction to the
handwritten note. I didn't think anything of it, but he was genuinely
impressed to receive something handwritten.

That makes me wonder about what kind of legacy we might be on the
verge of leaving. I know that the most handwriting I typically do
these days are notes and brainstorming activities. The personal nature
of handwriting and the evodence of a person behind the writing may be
"on the way out" to some degree, but I think it has inspired me to do
more writing and possibly take up a handwritten journal again.
Wouldn't a journal be more precious to children if the ink was placed
by our hand. I am often quite pratical, but this seems beyond
practicality. Strange what I can learn while writing. (this blog post)

At Work

I didn't get to my post this morning so to make sure I keep my record going I wanted to post a lunch log. I am happier right now than when I started this morning. I had a patient with easy information so it got me going a lot better than I have been lately. This has been a rough week, waiting for the weekend I guess. Well I won't be worrying about black Friday now since I have spent all of my free spending money. Thankfully I don't have money to spend so I won't have to even think about it. Gwen is a super cutey yesterday we were wandering IKEA and by the cash registers she spotted a polar bear stuffed animal and went crazy. Holding him she put him like he was walking on the ground and her dad melted and let her get him. She sure does like bears and white/black are her favorite stuffed animal colors right now.

Jane made some pumpkin cake earlier this week that was ok warm, but wonderful cold,(don't ask me I like my pumpkin treats cold apparently). I had some with icecream last night and almost went back for seconds. It has a crust of sorts that is crunchy in just the right way for ice cream. I am trying to get a little more organized with things lately, but this week has been over the edge and I will most likely have to try again on a more stable week. I can't quite keep track of all that is going on day to day. I have a special project I am excited to start for myself and a group of friends. Well, I think I hit my stride have a nice afternoon.

Bane of my existence

Black Friday is pushing my buttons this year. I really don't have much
money to spend or needs to spend it on so I have made a bad decision
to even look at the ads, because seeing the crazy prices on cool stuff
makes me want to go buy stuff even if it would end up in my
pile'o'stuff. Projector (don't know how good) $99 huge hard drives
cheap, tv deals, cameras/camcorders, computer monitors (very tempting
to one up my current awesome set up.

I need to leave really quick here but that is most of it.

Daily "Needs"

I figure this is as good a place as any to make this list since it
will make me feel more commited to following through with gaining a
"needs" perspective.

Shelter (including utilities)
Shower
Clothing
2-3 Meals
Activity for bus ride
Occupation (career/job)
Vehicle (maintenance and fuel too)
Time with family
Insurance (this is not a daily thought, but luckily it doesn't need to
be)

I guess that is about it, I will add acouple of extra want/needs.

Some entertainment, books, movies, games. Internet is helpful.

Now what I want to do with this list is evaluate my purchases and time
alotment in terms of these things.

New week

We had a really good lesson in priesthood yesterday based on a
conference talk given by Elder Perry. He talks about simplifying our
lives. I reccommend it to everyone with the invitationnto discuss it
as a family and pray to find ways to apply simplification by
eliminating unneccesary things and refocusing time to better pursuits.

We seems to have upside down perspectives in life when it come to
priorities of living. One example is the amount of money in our
society applied to "entertainment" sports, movies, tv, and one I find
evaluating in my life , games (video games more than others, but all
could use a look).

Well, I am trying some things differently this week to use my time
better and I think it will be a good opportunity.

Looking up?

Well there is something worthwhile for the week. My neighbor talked to
me about the leak and it looks like it has dried up since we stopped
using our tub now I just need to do it and he will go ahead and fix
his wall then we are done. Luckily I am just going to have to deal
with my tub not his wall since he can and will do that himself.

I am thrashed so I am going to rest now so I have some energy when I
get home.

Lucky Moron

So I actually got to eat breakfast this morning, but distracted myself
enough to forget my bus pass again. So iwas a moron and had to go back
after I got to my stop. The lucky part was that I caught the next bus
even though I was late. I am a little frustrated still, but it is
wearing off. I will be glad when this week is over it hasn't been
going all that well.

My bus isn't here yet so this may end up being like the last tim the bus decided to not be here and we all had to pack onto the later bus, but I am going to hope not.

At various points in many degrees over the past 8 months or so (and probably for years before) I have wondered what I was going to do with my life and You Know What!!

I'm not going to work in medicine, "but we already knew that". (use a whiny voice for effect).

No seriously You Know What!!!! I am going to be... Telling a lie >unless I say I am no closer to having the most minute fragment of an inkling of a particle of an idea. Not definitively anyway. Maybe a particle, but not likely, more of a seed, of knowing maybe what I need to do to get the particle.

Who am I really? What makes me worthwhile, unique, individaul? What do I have to offer? How do I get to the place to offer it? And what/where is that place? Do I want more than I can have? Do I even want anything clearly anymore?

Constraint vs Restraint

During my last post I stumbled on an interesting set of words when I was trying to express myself. I often like to think about words or phrases and how they create such different meanings and impressions.

Before I get to my "straints" there is a phrase exploration I found the other day and I will create my own example of it here. When telling a child that cleaning room=treat. There are a few phrase structures we could use two are presented below:

"If you clean your room, you will get 'a treat' "

"If you don't clean your room, you won't get 'a treat' "

What is the difference and how does each one make you feel or perceive the same basic message? The second form was used in a church setting not long ago and proved quite able to offend or concern those who heard it. The key is in the doubly (not double) negative second statement. I am not a psychologist, but I have a feeling this makes a huge difference. Well take a gander and think about it.

Back to my original idea (sorry this will be a long post, and this apology just made it longer for which I could apologize...) the differences between constraint and restraint con and re from her on.

Con: I would say often self imposed, this perspective would be like knowing there is an outside to the box, but not currently dealing with it.

Re: Imposed from the outside or perceived to come from the outside, the vision here would be more of I am inside a box and what can I do about it?, also you might not even be able to see an achievable outside

There are probably some comparisons to optimism and pessimism in these words and more depth to what I am trying to explain,but I am out of ime and I leave it to you to explore your perceptions.

Childhood Dreams

I took some advice from a friend of mine and read a book that he let me borrow called "The Last Lecture" it is a really good book with great life living advice. However, I still am having trouble with seeing how I can apply the main theme of the book.

The theme was the title of the original lecture "How to really achieve your childhood dreams". The trouble, I don't remember them or even know if I really had any to remember. This may sound strange, but my mind lives very much in the present and I have to find a dedicated moment just to pull up significant events let alone "passive" occurrences.

There are others that I might be suppressing given my current circumstances, but I am not sure I could even identify those. I might have something let in my box of junk from the fire that could rekindle something and it will be worth a look whenever I get back to Cedar next.

Does anyone else remember anything about what I wanted as a kid? Some little glimpses I have are not all that meaningful to me now. Or if I am not able to really have childhood dreams how can I approach having dreams at almost 26 with plenty of responsibilities and "constraints". Maybe I should try and make constraint=wall and use the advice from the book, but mine seem to be of a different nature.

Maybe, just maybe, I have caught a glimpse of something more, but there is going to be a whole new approach to life to get around and through to things that keep me in my box, and even with some of the tools to get this accomplished, I still need direction and that is the problem.

Dawn

I had issues getting out of the house this morning so I am taking the
later bus. The sun is almost up so that is novel after last last week
hardly seeing sunlight.

I get paid at the end of this week and that will probably help me get
through the next couple of days. Yesterday was a little weird. Just
struggled through the morning before reply getting anywhere.

I'm not quite sure what else to say.

Weekends

Well I cooked two big meals this weekend and added a couple weeks lunches to my supply for work. For one of the meals I even made some meatballs so that was a new experience.

I had a scare last night when I couldn't find my id badge and bus pass. I finally gave up and went to bed and I found it this morning almost first thing. It probably wouldn't have been as bad as it was if the weekend hadn't worn me out, but that is what weekends tend to do to me.

I am listening to the radio and I am grateful to be somewhat aloof of the "current issues". I am done for now I think.

Off the Hook

At least you almost were, but I have a few comments after all this morning.

Someone was curled up quite comfortable it seems on the bus today, and even had a pillow which I have contemplated doing before.

All overtime today so it will be nice to get working, and it will be nice to get some more sleep tonight hopefully.

Please make some sense

A funny thing goes on when a Trax train comes into a station there is announcement "please purchase your tickets before boarding the train".

That might be called considerate, helpful, and even logical but for the fact that it happens to be announced inside the train to those that are already boarded.

Hmmm I don't get it... The only possible explanation I could fabricate would be that they are "tactfully" warning people to get off and get a ticket if you don't have one. Or maybe it really does talk outside the train and I am deaf when I am outside the trains. However I believe that unlikely since I clearly hear the noise out here.

Morning Rush

I got out of the shower a little later than usual this morning so I had some extra rush to get out the door and to the bus stop. Being the last pickup point the bus doesn't necessarily get here on time so that is helpful on days like these. Turns out we didn't have the regular driver this today so that added to the late factor even more. Now I am comfortably seated and on my way. Nothing jumps out to me as something to cover for now so "that's all folks"

Crazy Website

I was introduced to a website that has the salaries of all the public
employees for the state of Utah. It is called utahsright.com and the
premise I assume is that public moneys should be public information.
It is based on last years data so people that started this year
wouldn't be listed yet.

Crazy to see salaries of university professors I had or even public
school teachers. It was really freaky to see my name and hourly wage
from when I was working in Cedar at adult ed.

Interesting stuff especially crazy for me was when my coworker
suggested looking for Kyle Whittingham head coach for the Utes
football team.

Happily Headed Home

I have ward missionary stuff on Wednesday nights so I get to go home
at a more regular time today thankfully. It will be really nice to
have my one simple bus rather than train train bus like the other
nights this week.

I took some time and cleaned up some of my posts and their weird
formatting for any people that see them with the funny line breaks.

Things are finalized/resolved at work now and my duties are clear. :D

Some Money

On a lighter note I have made it through two of my four long days this week and 13 hours a day is going to give me a decent return on payday so that will be helpful towards clearing up some more of our debts before the new year. I hope to get us reduced to just our home loan in a couple of months then focus on paying it off and getting some savings built up. It is really nice to have a paycheck again, and free use of overtime is enjoyable too.

Stressful Mistake

So last night wasn't the greatest once I got home. I was talking to Jane about stupid issues and forgot something in my car when I went in the house. I hung up for a second to run back to the car and thought about the stress in my job andthe possible duty changes that are yet to take effect.

Well by the time I was in the house I was upset and proceeded very quickly to forget why. So needless to say this wasn't the best state to be in trying to get to bed. I was anxious and just generally in a funk.

I guess my difficulties with the probable transition are multifaceted, but some of the more bothersome are I am being reassigned by someone I have never met that refers to me as quot; the non-** person" (** being my colleague's last name) I don't think he really knows much about what I do now, or for that matter what he wants me to do. He has no patience to let me finish the project I was hired for although I am making significant progress, it is almost as if he wants to bag it. The lack of vision and lack of delegation are killing me, it is like the General reassigning foot soldiers no chain of command no personal consideration. People that aren't managers placed in a managing role just causes problems.

Well like the donkey being buried alive I'll just have to "Shake it off and Step up".

Early and Cold

I made it to my bus stop early for a change instead of just on time
and I decided I would get out of my car and wait. Maybe that was
stupid. It is a nice morning not windy like is often the case here,
but it is cold.

Yesterday went rather well and now I'm off to my second long day this
week. It will be nice to get a solid paycheck after this is over and
get some stuff paid off.

Looks like we are probably going to have Christmas in Cedar this year
since we can't really make it for Thanksgiving. So that should be fun
to get out of The Wasatch front I haven't left since August.

Not much else to say for now I got on the bus and it is warmer so that
is nice.

It begins

So I am setting myself up for a long week. Jane is visiting my family
this week so I have decided it will be a great week to take advantage
of my standing permission to get lots of overtime. I am going to try
for 12+ hour days. I think I will be able to do it for a week, but I
am definitely going to need a weekend after this.

The extra money gained from so much overtime will be very helpful
though to get some more bills paid and get us closer to being out of
debt. It is always nice to be free of that, and have money going to
youself rather than to other people. It will be nice to get working on
savings again.

Rock Bands

Maybe i have mentioned some of this before, i honestly can't remember, but too bad if I did.

A friend of mine had a cd of the band Styx that I listened to quite a bit in high school and as I started listening to Pandora online radio I set up a radio station focused around the style of Styx. I found other bands of the "prog" rock era I have been enjoying too. Kansas, Boston, and Journey have some cool music and it was interesting to get this other musical selection I haven't had much exposure to.

I also have been listening to some country that I like nothing that is very new I don't think mostly artists and songs that I could have heard back in the day with Sam. In nice to have several varieties so when one starts going stale I can switch over to another one

Solitaire

I find myself often playing a solitaire game I have on my iPod in my spare bus time. Why do I spend my time on my cool little device playing solitaire. One could say "you might as well be playing tiddley winks".

Ha ha ha that is ridiculous have you ever tried playing tiddley winks on a bus. Then don't make such silly remarks.

In fact the solitaire I haven't gotten hooked on isn't a run of the mill game you can move cards around a lot more and you even get some redeals to get through it. Quite a fun game even if it is a little lackluster for the power packed machine I carry.

Silly silly people... Tiddley winks how utterly ridiculous.

TGIF

Next week will probably be a long and tough one, but this week is
almost over. It is chilly out this morning but very nice otherwise.
Yesterday work went quite well I made some head way on some more
difficult forms. It takes some time to get used to the best ways to
find the information I am fighting to discover.

One thing about Fridays is that there are generally less people on the
bus, and today even less than normal. It will be nice to have my
weekend before my big eork week next week while Jane is out of town.

I don't have whole lot to say right nownso maybe I will just leave it
at that.

Releasing Frustration

I am annoyed by Zions Bank this afternoon and how thing are processed with my online banking. So I had a couple of checks out to our HOAs that are cashed whenever and I as watching my account carefully because I get paid tomorrow and it was getting on the low side, I even made a transfer out of my credit union account to try and make sure I made it to Friday.

Well today I looked at my account and apparently the HOA cashed checks "yesterday". Also, my transfer was being processed today and somehow everything came together and said I still had a few dollars "available" because of weird overlap and wanting to be cautious I transfered money from one of our Zions accounts raising my "available amount to about $19 or so. Then I decided to buy a piece of pumpkin pie when went to the cafeteria with some coworkers. The pie was less than $2, but triggered a tentative overdraw charge on my account. This is extremely annoying when I was even extra careful by transfering money into the account I will see if it stays on my account and I have to complain about it.

Frustrating and stupid I'll see what happens.

Make up

I don't wear it although some people might argue that it would help. I just thought it was interesting that looking up from my blog posting I looked over and a woman was doing her makeup across the aisle. Not strange you might say and you might b right seems like a reasonable idea and much better than some who might do it while driving.

Although you might be wrong in you're seemingly right assumption and indeed this would be a strange thing. Why is it strange? Well maybe I just have no experience with the time and dedication required to properly "paint" your face, but this woman was seen by me over half an hour ago through the windows on the bus engaged in this activity. Maybe there were breaks in between or maybe it just took that long, but goodness that is quite a bit of time to spend.

And to think of how much time I wasted commenting on it, that is appalling. :D

Making Headway in Quicksand

So my job is very interesting from a stability standpoint seeing that
if some things happen as planned I might end up doing a very different
job than I was originally hired to do.

In other situations this might not be a bothersome situation, but I
have been making relatively sugnificant progress at cleaning up the
backlog of "paper work" that has been accumulating for years. I think
I could get over my distaste for the duties I am to be given, I just
want to be given enough time to finish what I am working on because
otherwise it may start piling up again or just totally come to naught.
Every week or so some new thing comes up from some source to
potentially recreate my position, but luckily nothing has succeeded as
of yet.

Basically all I can do is keep going and hope that can get my work far
enough out of the pit to argue for it's necessary continuance over
other things.

It is some rough work and although at the end of the day I hit a
saturation point of frustration and fatigue I can usually face it
again by morning, and it much better than the alternatives. The new
job I would be given is a whole other story with even more room for
frustration, but I will leave that for another day if it comes to that.

Bus Possibilities

So both Eagle Mountain and our neighbor Saratoga Springs passed
propositions to increase our sales tax in order to join UTA so
hopefully if the projections hold we might have an express bus route
straight from Eagle Mountain to Salt Lake. When I first heard about
getting an express route I wasn't sure if it would work for me since I
don't work downtown, but with the flexibility of my schedule and the
fact that I get a half hour lunch (not an hour) I think it will be
advantageous and I won't need to drive as much or not at all to get to
work.

Elections Editorial

Recently reading over the constitution I saw a few things about the
presidental elections that would be interesting to see implemented in
a different way. There are three main points that would make for a
different process and possibly a better experience for everyone
involved. These points involve the idea of a presidental/vp "ticket",
the party system as it relates to intial nominations, and the
administration of the electoral college.

Looking at the original Article II of the constitution gives us the
standard for the election of a president and the vice president, and
the XII ammendement gives us an extended idea of how they can relate
to each other. The president and vice president are elected
seperately, yet we most likely weren't given the option of
distinguishing the two yesterday at the polls. The seperation of these
two races though not essentail could create a different dynamic to
free us from a strictly partisan outcome. How would it be if we could
have a bipartsan presidental/vp outcome, bad or good, I don't claim to
know, but it would be different and maybe something we could benefit
from.

Also of note in the constitution is the mentioning of voting
restricted to a president and vp from different states than the one in
which the electors reside that brings to my mind a more broad view of
political ideals. Rather than a two party system with the other
outlying parties we could have a system based more around state vision
and unity. Each state could potentially back their candidate(s) into a
process of weeding out who would be better. Perhaps not a better way
of doing things, but an area with room for thought.

Finally the electoral college seems to be executed in a manner that is
not solely based on the constitution, but by long held traditions.
Wouldn't it be a very different experience if in the state of Utah we
"appointed" 5 people to vote in the electoral college rather than
doing a popular vote and automatically giving the party of the
favoures candidate the electors that favor it. Some also argue the
electoral college is obsolete because of mass communication, perhaps
it is still needed because of miscommunication. The selecting of
electors could also create a more personal level election I could see
the potential of actually knowing/ meeting the person I am "voting"
for and they could get to know, meet with, and investigate the people
they would be voting for. Couldn't we benefit from more direct
communication?

There has been extensive talk about change maybe it is time that we
tried some other sorts if change.

Nasty Weather

So leaving my house you would never have known about the blizzard
waiting on the other side of the hill. I also didn't think to get a
beanie or coat or gloves or other useful clothing articles.

It will be interesting to see when the bus makes it here. I am just
hanging out in my car until it does because our notoriously windy bus
stop is terribly blizzardy.

This is going to be a fun winter and may cure me of wanting to live
anywhere near the wasatch front. Some people are standing out in this
I am amazed by that.

So the election happened we will see how the next four years go. Maybe
by the next election I will have some clue of how to find good
reliable information and have some solid vision of how I want things,
or maybe I will just lean more towards apathy.

So one more nice thing about mass transit is that now I am comfortably
sitting writing for my blog and someone else gets to deal with traffic
and weather. I will be later for work, but with a flexible schedule
later isn't neccessarily late.

If I had a more formulated opinion on politics today would be a
fitting place for it, but I am content to live my life and simply hope
the government doesn't invade it too much.

Well I think I am done for now, but I might write more before I get to
work. It will be a long ride.

Wow!!!!

That felt great I can see how much money I have again. It is decidedly less than before, but just the ability to see it and not have to wonder anymore makes a huge difference. Back on the financial bandwagon and how great an opportunity to go forward with it. I am so glad I brought my laptop today and it might become a regular occurrence so I do stuff like this. I am wonderfully amazed at the difference that seeing my money in real time is having on my outlook. I thrive on the day to day monitoring just like on the mission where I really learned to manage my finances.

I get to go walk in the rain in just a minute ick..

Blogging By Computer

That is a novel idea so I thought I would try it this morning and keep with my daily posting. I am carrying my laptop today since I am going to try and use it at work. I am delving into physical records today to try and recover information for the research forms I am filling out and they want me to work in their review rooms instead of taking the records to my own office. Since all of the forms are on the internet I hope to be able to use my laptop or they may have computers in the review room and I will go from there.

It is nice to actually be using my laptop again it has been several months now since I got my ipod touch and I have been surviving off the small screen and slower processing quite well considering. Dusting off the old girl is really nice though and if I start getting some good ideas about things I could try and accomplish then maybe it will be more frequent. I really need to be actively involved in something outside of work, about all I have done in the past month outside work is play games and write blog posts.

So really I blame anyone who reads my blog, it is all your fault.

I was thinking of something else I could start blogging about and maybe trying another blog out, but I will see on that.

Well I think I will make a vain attempt at getting Quicken up to date since I have it with me.

Drab Day

So getting out of my cave today and seeing the outside world for the
first time since about 7 this morning I found out it was a cloudy and
cool day with good fresh air outside. It was a huge relief after being
buried alive.

Election day is tomorrow. Heaven help us. Good luck to mom who gets to
sit at a polling location for the entire day, you might as well be
doing my job. (although I would imagine mine is a bit nastier)

Had a fun party with some Herd members we had a lot of fun and
subjected them to artichokes mmmmm they were tasty too. Otherwise
just here trying to keep going that is about all I can manage on a
daily basis.

Migraine aftermath

Well I almost took a sick day today, but I am going to go to work and
chance the consequences. I went to bed with a bad migraine and woke up
better like usual, but would have liked some extra sleep. I am going a
little later today so I did get some extra rest so all in all I should
be ok though not the greatest.

Happy Halloween!! (by the way) it hasn't been a big deal for me
lately and we might be the house that the people aren't home tonight
if we can find somewhere else to go. Yeah I know we are terrible, but

Horrendously long

Sorry about some of the long posts especially yesterday with my out
and out rambling. (this sorry is issued to anyone unfortunate enough
to have bothered reading my blog including myself)

Mainly yesterday I had to express the "funness" that is popcorn being
whole wheat. The "weirdness" that I feel seeing 2003 and almost
wondering "did the hospital even have computer records waaay back
then". The "annoyingness" of bad bus management, and the "coolness" of
playing with light by reflecting it off my iPod that can double as a
pretty good mirror.

That was the gist of it and I guess not really reading over the post
before I post it can give some over the top stuff.

Ugggh

Well I got to my bus stop this morning and as I was getting out of my
car realized ""I don't have my badge". Elaboration: my idea badge
should have been on my sweater collar it was however not there but
rather at home.

The irony of this is that I actually got out of the house really well
this morning and was ready to be on my way totally on time for my bus
and yet no badge. You might wonder "did your badge matter so much
couldn't you get by for one day without it?" The answer probably if it
weren't for the fact that it also has my Bus Pass!

(I am not a strong proponent for the use of exclamation points, but I
had to attempt something since I don't gave the freedom of comedic
timing in writing. )

Yes friends there were at least two potential problems that sent me
home to get my badge. Luckily when I go back over a half an hour later
the second bus was late so I am not going to have a multiple vehicle
morning (beyond mine and the one bus).

Whole grain time dilated light experimentaion

That is a mouthful and also a good title for a killer bunnies card it
also contains three subjects that you will have to endure if you keep
reading.

Whole grain is a very important item for a good diet and since I have
been looking at ways to be more healthy with my practices I have tried
to find good foods to eat. I never thought of popcorn as a healthy
treat, but it is a whole grain and if you prepare it right can be a
good item for getting good grains into your diet who would has guessed
with the notorious image of movie popcorn covered in butter although
that will always be one of the tastiest ways you can have it.

Staring at a computer screen all day at what's more programs that look
like could have existed in the original windows days can do funny
things to your perception of time. One program is even fully text
based only keyboard allowed.

Honestly does anyone else feel like 2003 might as well have been the
90's or even the 80's. I get to the point of needing to look up a
record for a patient in 2003, 2004, or even 2005 and I feel like it
won't even be in the computer. It is like a time vortex in my office
robs me of all the technological advancement of the past 15+ years
even though I am listening to Internet radio and have an awesome iPod
in my pocket. I hardly mess with computer stuff at home lately and
that probably contributes as well.

Side track... My bus is totally missing today never came and I have
been waiting 30 minutes 10 more to go until the second bus shows up.
Weird and lame. In fact very lame I called UTA and they said "oh that
bus had a mechanical problem off I-15 you probably aren't going to see
that bus". Which says to me "Wasting 40 minutes of your time is no
sweat off our backs" they could have done something, but that would be
good business we couldn't have that could we. Arrrrrgh

Ok back to the pertinent topics of this post.

While waiting for the bus I played with my super tech nerd mirror
(also called an iPod touch) and saw that it makes a good signal
mirror. While seeing how far off I could see the reflected light I
came across a great demonstration of light absorbtion. I could see the
light on the Trax train across the street,but not on the black
portions. Best I can tell the fact that the beam was weakened by the
imperfect reflection made the absorbtion more apparentso that although
black absorbs light it isn't going to get all of it if you use a
flashlight for example, but a diffuse source like my iPod set up a
good show for absorbtion.

Sorry if I lost you on that last one it is better if you see it.

I might get to stand up for my ride to be a gentleman so I will sign

Transportation

In response to a comment stating that I ride "public" transportation I would like to say that it is true that being kind hearted and ecologically minded I do share my chauffer with a few select people, but I would not consider it "public". :D

Sorry couldn't resist. I counted last night and it looks like the busses I ride have seating for about 60 people however we seldom fill up the seats on the early bus and a few are taken down to fit a power chair in for one of our passengers.

These busses are pretty nice though they are similar to tour busses in how the seats are set up and how obnoxiously little the seats recline. I miss bus trips I hit a sentimental point in my thoughts sorry just a lot of good memories and times like they won't probably ever be again.

On a lighter note these busses and bus riding in general has been a fun experience it helps me feel like I am in some kind of big city while still living in the middle of nowhere. Well not the middle of nowhere Beryl was the middle of nowhere and at least we could get a tv signal out there. :D

I also like to remember all of the crazy bus jumping in Uruguay or taking busses for my transfers. They had some cool busses down there with nice recline and different types of foot rest possibilities. I had a couple of nice busses, but never did get to go on the infamous "coche cama" or "super cama" I think the first name was a type of bus and the second was a specific service if that is the case my best bus may have been the first, which means "bed bus" and the second "super bed" I know I never went on, it was an amazing aight to see though. Beautiful doubledecker touring bus that apparently the seats almost fully reclined giving you a bed to sleep from Rivera to Montevideo overnight.

I guess one last interesting thing about busses in Uruguay was the use of them to send mail. You could go to a courier company that worked with the bus companies or to the company itself and send a package from one city to another an they made use of the extra dead empty storage space to get the package in and on it's way. Awesome strategy and unique to locations with better mass transit than our good USA.

We live in an amazing world with all the different people and different ways of life. The United states is such a large country geographically compared to places like Uruguay and many European countries, when we think of taking a trip it might mean as far as Maine and we would still be in our county, but in Uruguay the farthest we would go was similar to a trip from Moab to Logan if even that far. It never ceases to intrigue me how geography makes such a huge difference in how we live.

Still alive

And only a little worse for wear. Once again we present ourselves at the cusp of the old and new weeks, and wonder...

What I do before I was bringing the DS with me every day? I guess I poked around on my iPod and wrote lame blog posts so surprise I'm back. The ride up here goes pretty quick no matter what I am doing though it is a welcome situation to have my own chauffer I would never had guessed that I could afford such a luxury at this point in my life, but it is just one of the great benefits that comes with my job. The University of Utah treats it's employees very well.

I haven't been able to think much about fixing our bathtub last week, but since we stopped using it the problems have stopped getting worse so we have confirmed the probl spot which is nice to know.

Gwen is the a super cutie this weekend Jane was having some rough times and got tearu and Gwen came over "ss okay, ss okay" as she hugged the momma and/or gave her loving pays on the leg or on the back. It is hard to get upset with a sweetie like that and I am glad Jane is in good hands when I leave for the day.

Bathtub

Well I talked to my downstairs neighbor again last night. It seems the leaking gets worse when somone uses the bath in the evenings. So we are pretty sure it is our bathtub that is the problem. I think I have decided after thinking it over and sleeping on it that I am going to have a go at fixing the problem. I first have to get the bathtub up then go from there. If anyone knows how to pull off wall panels feel free to let me know otherwise I am going to do some information searching and go from there.

Waiting for the bus

This is turning out to be a great time to write blog posts as I wait
for my bus. She is earlier today. So that is as far as I got before
she got here.

Tomorrow is payday so that is exciting it will put me headed in the
direction of getting out of debt and on the way to a somewhat more
solid financial situation.

I forgot my phone today so I am not going to get any random text
messages from jane so that is a little disappointing. I really don't
have any coherent topic for right now so I will go and simply say
hagoda.

I'm back

Well I still have the ds for a few more days, but I decided I needed to get at least one post since I had a good flow going and I didn't want to lose that.

We had a pretty good weekend Gwen was super cute, but had a few rough moments. She decided on more than one occasion that she wanted to watch a particular "shew", and would pull it off the bookcase and give it to me.

Apparently I missed my bus or it is really late today. I guess I will hang out and catch the next one. It is sad because at most I missed it by a minute or two. Or it is late... Weird morning

I get a nice check this week that should help us get on the way out of our debt (excluding home loan) and on to greener pastures (or back in black as it may be). Good luck and hagoda.

Yay for staff meetings

I am giving this title to this post quick before our meeting. Now
after the meeting I echo my sentiments yay for saff meetings.

We could definitely use some training on how to have an effective
meeting. We got through about half of the agenda in a half hour then
we flatlined for the rest of the hour on one topic. I had to leave
before the meeting was over to catch my bus which I didn't want to do,
but I also wasn't going to miss my bus and have to come up with some
sort of other transport plan on a momentes notice.

That was the second meeting that ran over an hour this week yesterdays
at least got cut off and I think we covered the agenda but suffering
today and maybe next week I will plan for a later evening. Who knows
how long they are planning to take for these things.

I am getting things done at work though so that is a nice thing. I am
even starting to get a little bit of a routine to my life and
hopefully can keep leveling out over the next month or so. I need to
stabilize things and hopefully I will make it. Jane saw a leak of some
sort under our sink so our plumbing is all sorts of nice. That one
should be relatively easy to fix, at least I can see the pipes.

That is my fun report for now and I just get to ride to my car then
drive home and see what happens with my night. ((I can never know for
sure)

Quiet Morning

I caught my bus just right today despite a slow start. It is unusually quiet since I don't have my radio, but it is a welcome quiet. Apple released some new MacBooks yesterday that are really neat with several great upgrades from the previous models bringing them to a more uniform presence in their laptop line.

I am glad that I am not in the market foe a laptop or they might be
more tempting than they are. I still have my laptop, but don't use it outside the house often because I get by for the most part on my iPod and work computer. Some of my main uses for my laptop previously were to have something I could use at home and transfer to school and sometimes to work. I have used it extensively for my email and chat systems, but now I can use my iPod to some extent for that type of thing and it fits in my pocket.

Just an interesting place I find myself in. I always thought a laptop was cool, and sort of a status symbol now it is this little hunk of metal glass and stuff that more than suffices. It is also a little interesting to have a job that doesn't seem like it would benefit all that much from laptop access although I could probably find a use for it if I wanted to lug it around which I don't.

I think I might sit back and pretend to sleep now.

"Random" thoughts

I use the quotation marks because of a lecture I read about human
ability to perform randomly.

So with my thoughts. I am riding this bus now that goes all the way to
Provo, and I have thought at least once before that (not at this time
of night) I could just keep going until I got to Orem and go grab a
Krispy
Kreme donut then get back on the other direction to go home. It would
take quite a bit of time, but I could get a free donut if I went at
the right time. Maybe if Jane leaves town again sometime I would go on
weird excursions to keep myself busy. I like using mass transit after
some exposure to it in Uruguay I became accostumed (no idea about
spelling on that one) to not have to drive sometimes I miss that type
of travel.

This Morning

Well I had a rough start to my morning and wrote what started as a
blog post then got somewhat out of hand so that I know I would've
gotten commentary on a moot point.

Work was pretty good today I stayed late so I am in the process of
traveling to the end of the line so I can catch my bus to Lehi. I am
on an annomalous bus right now that goes only halfway there then I
will get down and jump on another train.

That was interesting a somewhat drunk guy decided to talk to me from
across the aisle and a seat or two up. Told about his brother that
converts Mormons to a non-religion and that income taxes are not
required by law.
I decided to get off the train in hopes of quieting him for the other
people, but I don't think it will have much if any effect.

Now I don't even know what else to say that was pretty interesting.
Maybe I will come up with something more by the end of the line. Nope
the guy drained my brain it seems.

Other than one thing I guess and that is that I forgot my radio and
headphones at work which is a sad state of affair since it means that
I don't get to listen to the NightSide Project until I get to my car.
I I would have at least had my headphones I could have used my iPod to
listen, but no luck. I might have to steal Jane's headphones for the
morning commute.

So now that I got one thing out I might have some things left to say
after all for which I will make another post.

Hands in the Pot

Well I think I have gotten past the housing thing, but maybe I should
explain why this is a neat thing for those that do qualify. I
addressed an immediate concern in a comment, but I just thought I
should explain a little more.

We currently pay what is called mortgage insurance as do most if not
all people that buy a house with les than 20% down. This insurance
does absolutely nothing for the home buyer it is insurance for the
lender to get their money back if you fail to pay. So in effect you
are paying into nothing. This insurance is released when you pay your
loan down below 80% of the appraised value.

So one of the advatages to the credit is that it might get you out of
the insurance hole and dropping money into something that doesn't
benefit you at all. Another major point of consideration is the
interest savings by going with zero interest on $7500 rather than
let's say 6% interest. Per year that 6% ammounts to $450 which is
almost enough to pay the stimulus payment each year and instead of
paying into nothing (interest) and instaed into your loan and your home.

Concerning the title of my post one disadvantage to this route is that
there are more people to deal with and the government has their hands
in the pot but that can be lessen by putting the savings right back to
than as soon as possible even though applying savings to your actual
loan could lead to even more savings. Just some thoughts, but I
understand apprehension with more people involved in a sensitive
situation.

Housing Stimulus

Here is a link to an informational site about the house purchase credit. An a more formal site that has information on this and other provisions made by the government for home owners this year. It seems that these were part of the economic stimulus plan passed earlier this year. This happened after we purchased our house, so maybe that is why it didn't go before April 9th you say.

Wrong again you just aren't doing that well today. Inexplicably the bill was first passed July 23, 2008 so why start April 9th? I assume there were tax considerations involved, but I feel more than a little cheated that this credit is post dated, but in such a strange fashion that excludes people before a relatively random date. I might have to research this and write a confused "What the heck were you thinking" letter to someone involved, maybe the president himself...

Money stinks

That almost says it all. I found out yesterday that there is a $7,500
tax credit for first time homebuyers during 2008. It looks like it is
intended to be paid back, but is interest free so congrats on that
neat assistance to the Ben and family.

Some might wonder at my sentence there and think, but what about you?
What about me that is a good question. Is it because you have a condo?
Nope. Because you make too much money? Ha ha ha. Because you bought
your house a week and a half too early to qualify? Ding ding ding
congratulations you win the random date effective point prize of
ridiculousness.

So my initiative disqualified us. April 9th not a terribly special
day, but the one they chose. Not that we needed the money it just
would have been helpful in getting us lower on our principal and get
us down faster to the point where we would be off the mortgage
insurance.

Well I should get working now that I am at work sorry for the spouting
off.

Thrashed

So yesterday was interesting to say the least. I had a mental
breakdown at work I think, and hope, that it was because I didn't get
enough sleep the night before. There is plenty of room for improvement
in the organization of my department and the clarity of what my job
really is.

It got better in the afternoon when I was able to do something that I
understand at least a little. I needed some sort of structure to keep
going forward and what I was trying to do in the morning was not
working that way.

This job is not easy by any means, but hopefully we can make it better
than it is. I really want to help it be organized so the next person
that might come in would be able to follow some sort of structure. The
program is still in it's infancy it seems and seems to be about as
organized as an infant at times.

One thing that would be really nice is if someone really knew the job
I am supposed to do. My "trainer" hasn't really even been trained. She
basically taught herself the job and for some types of jobs that might
work, but for a highly detailed job like ours without someone to back
you up and really train you there is a tendency to miss something or
just plain not understand.

I am thinking I might need to just get to the point that hopefully I
will understand it enough to leave some info behind and structure as
well.

So apparently my iPod can only show 9 pages of applications then it
gives up and doesn't let me see or access the other applications I hve
installed.

This is really obnoxious, but I will just have to get working on
weeding out programs that I don't want/need to keep. Well yippee.

What Next

Does anyone know how I can get the past 8 months of my life back? I
think practically every decision I have made this year has utterly
failed. I will absolutely never own a living space above or below
another person side by side maybe, but never in a position where water
could be leaking from my home and damaging someone elses.

I can't take the consistent failure of decisions it is so overwhelming
that in the middle of some progress things just fall apart. That is
the story of 2008 for me.

"I could try this" *failure* repeat.

Well, I guess we will see what a contractor says and I will just have
to deal with what happens yippee. Maybe I will start living at the
hospital so I can get in more overtime to pay for the next inevitable
failure, in addition to this one.

Techlems

My blog will be graced with at least two posts this morning. As I sent
off the email that was to be converted to another post this morning I
caught at least one spelling error that should not have been there
mornig!=morning (for lack of symbols I am using a programming term !=
means "not equal to" in some programming).

I decided because of that error and my other enjoyable experiences of
the morning I would post about techlems.

Frustrations

It is very bothersome when being about 5 minutes late can make you 30
minutes late for work, but that is part of the territory with mass
transit I guess I still don't appreciate.

I stopped this morning to check that my first pay check had gone
through and got waylaid as I found that the $20 deposit meant for
Jane's account was going into my acount and the remaining money was
not showing up on either. So I went to the payroll website where I set
up my direct deposit accounts and fin that in trying to fix some
problems with the direct deposit a couple of weeks ago I had
inadvertently put my account in twice with the $20 deposit first.

I now have a sneaking suspicion that the payroll software in charge of
direct deposit is going to have an error and create a big problem for
my pocketbook. Hopefully it will be cleared up by the end of the day
or by the time the actual workday starts.

I just wish the internet hadn't been dragging so bad because I finally
got done with that late with little hope of catching my bus, then to
add insult to injury I ran out the door without my keys and had to
knock and finally call Jane so she could let me back in.

Bothersome mornig and very anger inducing, but I think I have cooled
off a lot better now. (Sitting on a metal bus stop bench this early in
the morning can really freeze your behind)

Hagoda and friends

Well I don't know why I have never taken a chance with using my blog
to spread my abbreviated greetings, but better late than never.

As a bit of history I think this stems from a realization on my
mission that English greetings are somewhat drab and hard to get out
quickly. Spanish was quite a bit smoother in that regard. I don't
claim that my system is any easier to roll off the tongue, but I think
it is a fun system to employ and I have thought it would be fun if it
spread and even become a fad.

I first employed my abbreviations while instant messaging with a
friend. I wanted to be able to sign off when I was leaving but wanted
something better than "bye" or have to type out "good night" or
something similar.

So is born the first incarnation Hagoda ( Have A GOod DAy) simple and
functional with other incarnations such as Hagoni and less used
versions Hagoev, Hagomo, and Hagoaf. Great stuff and simple to use
once you get used to them.

Overload

I had a pretty good day at work today although I felt like I was not
quite with it in a meeting that I attended. Lots of stuff seems to be
going on that I still don't quite follow and my goodness medical
information is extremely dry for looking at. Gross is an interesting
word though when you see a test that talks about some organ being
grossly (insert your own adjective) it is at least a little funny.

I got a good laugh out of one of those earlier an another good laugh
out of a song on my Internet radio station called "Ikea" aptly named
after the furniture store that it features.

Work isn't too bad overall, but there is tons more left to learn and I
have to keep trying to absorb what I can.

Another day another dollar

Actually lots of dollars. I put in extra hours today and will be doing
so for at least a few weeks. I have tons of room for overtime I was
hired with the understanding that it would be expected for at least
awhile. So I am taking full advantage of overtime opportunities to get
us more solidly back on our feet. We might even be able to have a few
Christmas present this year once we clean up our finances a bit.

Once I got past the time I usually leave it wasn't all that bad
although getting there was a little rough being ready to give up on my
plan to stay late and just take off for home. It won't be easy to work
12 hour days, but it will definitely pay off.

I had a network connection at my Trax station by the hospital when I
started this entry now I get to wait until I get downtown to post it.

Survival

Here I am, at the end of my first week of work and gladly I got
through pretty well. The last hour or so today I was burning out
though because I am really starting the more in depth stuff now and it
is a big collection of stuuf to face.

I think after some rest this weekend I should be able to face some
more mental overload as I learn more stuff that is utterly new and
somewhat overwhelming.

It is always amazing to me that although I have learned so much and
absorbed so much information that I can still learn new things like I
have had to do this week. I'm glad I can leave work at work and come
back later because quite a few things seem to be looming just over the
horizon with all of this.

Just have to take it one day at a time and keep pretending I know what
I am talking about, and no one will know the difference. That has
often been the ability that I would consider my ace in the hole.

Work work work

I am going to b spending lots of time at work over the next few weeks/
months. I have a lot of opportunity for overtime and it will be
helpful to pay off some bills and replenish our savings a bit. It
looks like a lot of what my job is about is collecting information
from patient files and entering the info into two databases and
filling out forms and things. Should be interesting and I am going to
learn a little about some cancers as well. The first day went well and
it is pretty neat that I get my own office. I can't wait to put up
abfew personal touches. Well bye for now.

Survival

I got through orientation so tomorrow I start my real job. I am a
little apprehensive, just because there will be a lot to learn as I
get started and it has been awhile since I really started something
new, my last job foe example wasn't extremely foreign and I came in
with more knowledge than several of the people I was working with.
This is completely different because it is nearly all unknown
territory. New info, new duties, new people, it should be great though
and I am happy for a challenge despite the worries.

Here I sit on my fancy bus that will take me merrily to work. I have
an Internet connection and I was lucky enough to get a seat today.
Tomorrow I am going to try the earlier bus and see if it is less
crowded. It was really cold at the bus stop this morning with some
nasty windchill. I have orientation today and hopefully can make it up
to the hospital to get my id badge as well. I may get back in the
habit of writing yet if I can get my Internet in the mornings and
occasionaly in the afternoon too I hope.

Good blogs

I find myself wondering more and more lately what makes a blog a good blog versus what makes a blog like mine... I have two sisters-in-law that write fun and interesting blog entries that I find myself reading as soon as I catch them on my feed reader and they seem to be so fun and enjoyable to read and then I think "I wish I could write like that", but of course if you have read through this blog you might find feeling is not terribly present...

Although I am not the greatest writer in the world I think I might have difficulty letting go of the fact that one of the best ways to write is through disassociation taking myself out of the world and really just writing for myself. I think I have wanted some feeling that this means something to someone else rather that worrying about what it means to me... Maybe I will give that a try really being me and not worrying through the choice of every word analyzing and reanalyzing everything I say until I think I have the responses figured out. I often take much more time thinking of what to say than the time I take to actually come out and say it, maybe that is a trait I have to face down to uncover the real me and see if he is someone worth getting to know.

Some people have some idea of who I am, but sometimes I wonder if I haven't locked myself down so much that I am not even sure of who I am. To much calculation in socializing has created a separate surreal world that I am just trying to make sense of and bring back to reality. I have created multiple layers of socializing and sometimes create new character profiles and traits for every person I interact with, going from one person to another sometimes seems like an all out switch of who I am and not really understanding where the acting ends and the real me begins creates a mess of my head when I start trying to think it out.

Prayers

Well hoping to get a job this week. Any prayers are more than welcome
I had a good interview with the *edited for annonymity* in a position
that I would love to have. Jane and Gwen have been in Cedar for a
couple of weeks while I am trying to get us back on our feet. It was a
beautiful morning this morning with a pretty sky and a great moon.
Well I hope you will look past the informality in this post, not

Zucchini Quiche

This is a "recipe" I got on my mission one of my in-laws has a garden and got zucchini and it made me think of this recipe.

First of all I am translating this and to explain the Uruguayos aren't to big on measuring anything so things are approximate.

Crust
for 30 x 40 cm pan (about 12 x 16 inches?) 9x13 and it may be thick...
or for a 16 inch diameter round
2 cups flour, 100g butter ( 1 stick is about 110 grams by someone on wiki.answers.com)
1 egg, 1 teaspoon salt, 2 Tb vinegar
Mix with 1Tb baking powder
Mix to soft dough you can spread to size of pan
Add squash mix and bake

Squash Mix (Zucchini is a squash and very tasty for this recipe)
Fry 2 small onions in oil or butter
Add 6 or 7 chopped squash until cooked
add salt, oregano, grated cheese*, a little creme or milk (1/2 cup)
Remove from heat and add 3 to 4 eggs
Stir well add to crust
Bake 30 to 40 minutes at 180-200 degrees Celsius (356 to 392 F)

*Cheese: not sure exactly what cheese this was might have been a mozzarella leave comments if you have suggestions or questions on things that don't quite fit

Here I are again

Well I haven't been writing much over the course of this week just
because I have been occupying my bus trips with my new iPod software.
I have some games for it now and I have been playing them and
listening to some Lord of the Rings audio dramas I put on my iPod
finally.

Things feel like they should start looking up soon. I am finishing my
job today so I can finally have more time to focus on a job hunt and
really look hard and work at it. It isn't going to be easy that is for
sure, but I do feel some more confidence and things might turn out yet.

Questions are what my life is all about lately. I am not who I was and
not who I want to be, but I don't feel yet like a hopeless cause so
that is reassuring. Although there have been points where I have been
wondering who I have become and how I had fallen so much from where I
have been in the past.

Little things will make the man
Little things may break him
Regardless of where he now stands
The Lord will not forsake him

Heavenly Father cares for all his children even though they may not
care for themselves. I am glad to know I have good strong men to call
my friends.

We may not be the brain trust of some great enterprise in the sight of
this world, but we have something that transcends this world. One of
the reasons I have made it this far in my life was due to my friends.

I have many times been on the brink
Or yet within the pit
When those around me showed me more
And helped me out of it

My life was blessed beyond measure by the high school split and the
opportunity to attend CVHS. It saved my life.

Another week

Another week

Not much to show for the new week, but doing alright just the same.
Have to keep looking for jobs and applying this week and hopefully
start I start getting more replies back from the applications I
already sent out. Sometimes I feel like I don't have a clue about how
to find a job and in fact I don't. Hopefully I can find something that
at least acknowledges my degree and counts that as something.
Mathematics, what was I thinking. Oh yeah, I was thinking I was
goingyo go to grad school, well we will see about that.

I really need to start using my new computer more and do some
programming that would at least give me something to be working on and
something to accomplish. If anybody has ideas of things I could
program let me know. Need something that does a specific task? Let me
know and you can get a custom program that meets your needs.

I will keep you all updated and I hope things start to pan out at
least a little so I can be providing a more stable income for my family.

Ode to Birdland

During my school years in jazz band there was one song I really loved called Birdland. Today going to work I listened to it and had a fit of nostalgia. Often times we don't realize how good things are when they are happening. Sometimes I can't help but miss the simplicity of those times. We were pretty crazy in our way. Follies of youth, things that happen when you get bored, but aren't a bad person just a kid pushing the limits. There were also the fun times of making movies and just being with friends.

My friends have been great in helping me get through life. There were points I might not have made it without them. I was blessed with good friends at a time in my life I when I could have really ruined things for myself, but there were people there to protect me and keep me in
better circumstances.

Just on Trax trying to get to work. Bus fares went up today. Still looking for a full time job. Speaking in sentence fragments. Jane and Gwen good. Might apply to job in Wisconsin. Other job with HOA. Trying to keep up. Cool new computer and iPod. Hope to stabilize soon. Lousy couple of weeks. Maybe more later.

Pieces Coming Together

Well I can pretend that some things are shaping up. What shape exactly is still to be determined. I am working on my last two weeks in Cedar City at the Adult Education Program and then on the 25th I am starting with Granite School District working with their Adult/Alternative Education program. It has been a couple of crazy weeks and I took a couple of minutes to relax after trying to set up instant messaging for my office and read an email from a mission friend and found his blog totally unexpected I didn't realize when he sent the mail way back that he had a blog. Interesting stuff. Well, sometimes I wonder if I am accomplishing as much with my life as I could seeing other people and their successes or big ideas I wonder if I am settling for something less than I could have. One consolation I always try to remember is that I have done quite a bit for myself and every day is something new. I enjoy the something new like setting up computer stuff today it was quite fun. I decide daily that I just have to keep going forward with the things I have set in motion and hope that things pan out in the end. Jane and I are looking at houses next Monday in Salt Lake and we hope to find something nice enough to get us through at least a few years. Gwen is getting big and is a gorgeous little girl with fun personality I need to get some more pictures up and keep better note of the things she does that are so fun. I Graduated!! I don't know if I have said that previously, but I got my bachelor's and look forward to grad school. Thanks to everyone

Finalizing

Well I am notorious for my lack of ability to decide what I want in my life, but today I made a decision to go for it.  So I am going to be applying to Utah State and University of Utah to a couple of programs at each one and I will see who accepts me and where I go from there.  I guess I am at the point of deciding my path and we will see which way I go.

Picking a path

Well here I am again and what to say.  I find life can be a very interesting endeavor when you get to a crossroads and have to come up with the next move.  I just got confirmation earlier today that I passed my math exit exam so all I have to do is finish 2 weeks of class and some "finals" and I am done.  Then what?... That is the real question I will have finished my Bachelor's degree in Mathematics with a physics minor, but what does that give me?  I don't really know.  I need to find some kind of job to support my family I will be losing the employment I have had at SUU and I need to decide where I am going and if we are leaving Cedar if we want to move sooner than later and look for jobs where we are heading.  Big questions and hopefully I will get some kind of answers in the next few weeks so I can at least point myself in the right direction if anyone has ideas I am open to suggestions.  Well good luck to all of us.

I think I got a bonus

Well I looked at my bank account earlier today and I got more money from the school district than usual so I am suspecting it might have been a christmas bonus.  I got one last year so it will be neat if we got them this year as well.  i have been working a lot on shoving money into savings as soon as I get it so that I can keep it protected from frivolous spending.  Jane and I have been doing pretty well with savings during our marriage and I have found that walking can save quite a bit of money.  I walk most everywhere I go during the week and it has made a visible difference at multiple points.  Well have a nice week and have fun with holidays.  Happy Thanksgiving

Thinking of Starting a Poll

I have decided that the best way to decide what I am going to do after graduation might be just to ask for suggestions, so I am opening it up to all of you to suggest the perfect profession or course of action.  Please comment on this post I need all the input I can get. Comical or serious responses will both be accepted (within reason).

On top

I actually am on top of things for the most part right now and it feels good to be there.  I got done with the grading I had to do and for the rest of the semester I mostly have to prepare a few lectures in Physics and do a couple of assignments.  I will have to do work stuff of course, but a lot of the looming stuff is done now.  Well that is my update for the day.

Gratitiude

Last night I was flipping through the Friend (we decided to use it for FHE) and noticed that there were several articles about being thankful, fitting for the month of Thanksgiving. I am grateful for a lot of things lately these last few days have been good ones.  I am getting ahead on some of my stuff that I am doing this week is going to be one of the last big weeks for this semester.  I am grateful that I am almost done with school even with the problems of planning that that brings on.  Veterans day passed this last Sunday and gratitude for what has been done for freedom of this country should be something no one ever forgets.  Things are going well though and those that aren't great are at least looking up.  Hagoda All

I can almost see the end

I am almost to the point of being able to see the end of the semester and goodness it is nice. I am grateful that I am down to one paper and presentation in one of my classes and the other class that actually has homework I have a presentation/lesson today and then a couple of one page article summaries due next week. Other than those two classes I am down to giving a couple of lectures every week for physics and next week for intermediate algebra. I am almost done though and grateful for it. Well, good luck to others that are in school with the last month or so and to those not in school be grateful you don't have finals coming up.

Keeping up appearances

Well here I am on a Saturday at my mom's house I have to try and control myself so I can get through some work today.  I set a deadline for myself to finish a spreadsheet I am working on for a Family literacy program in town called Even Start.  It shouldn't be too hard if I can just make myself focus long enough to get through it.  I guess we will see.  I also have some other work I should probably be doing this weekend, but 1 thing at a time.  I found a crazy link yesterday check this out.

Here I am again

Just sitting in Physics listening to Prof. Sorensen go over a test that the class had yesterday.  I was getting antsy so I thought I would write.  Life is going quite well lately I go the newest Mac OS and it has fun to use.  School is getting closer to being over and I am glad for it.  My weekend is going to be busy because I set myself a deadline on some project I need to finish.  Oh well, I should have a busy weekend once in awhile and it will let me get some stuff out of the way.  I am still trying to figure out what in the world I am doing after I graduate, but I guess that is life.  Good luck to everyone.

Math Trick Disillusionment

Here is a math trick with fairly common structure, after the trick I will proceed to explain the math behind it. So if you don't want to have the trick be demystified don't read after it.


YOUR AGE BY DINER & RESTAURANT MATH 

It takes less than a minute.
Work this out as you read. Be sure you don't read the bottom until you've worked it out! This is not one of those waste of time things; it's fun.


1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to go out to eat (more than once but less than 10)


2. Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold)


3. Add 5


4. Multiply it by 50 


5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1757 ... If you haven't, add 1756


6. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born 

You should have a three digit number.

The first digit of this was your original number (i.e., how many times you want to go out to restaurants in a week) The next two numbers are YOUR AGE! (Oh YES, it is!!!!!)

I am going to use some algebraic notation for this it shouldn't be too hare to follow. Let's say x=the number you picked in step 1, b=your birth year, and r=result of all the steps.

The problem can be written as
50*(2*x+5)+1757-b=r or if you haven't had your birthday yet 50*(2*x+5)+1756-b=r

it turns out that by simplifying the equations above we get

100x +2007-b=r and 100x+2006-b=r

Looking at the first equation we see the 2007-b this is in fact your age or if you have not had a birthday we subtract 2006.
So we have your age and assuming it is less than 100 we simply add on 100 times your original choice so it ends up in front of your age in the finally calculation.

Interesting to note this trick only works for this year next year the 1757 and 1756 will both need to increase by one. I hope someone else found this at least remotely interesting.

GRE fun and Referendumb 1

I have just been very opinionated on a few things lately not something that happens often, but when people decide to mail me papers with Hilary Clinton and Al Gore on them I draw the line.  Vouchers and the whole debate took a dive at the polls and the state legislature and governor should be saying "Oops, seems we don't know what our citizens want"  I don't know that I truly have a well informed opinion on the voucher issue, but there were definitely flaws in some of the arguments for them and the holes were glaring.  Sorry just had to get that out.  As for the GRE fun in my title I was supposed to take the GRE Physics test last Saturday and the testers dropped the ball and no one was there when we (6 of us) showed up for the test.  I don't really need the test so I am trying to get a refund, but the testing company is being a little difficult or at least it feels that way.  I called I believe Monday or Tuesday and then Wednesday to try and request the refund. I was told Wednesday to fax a written statement that I did not want to retest.  Come today (Thursday) I was contacted by one of the test proctors and told that the person in charge of handling the case wanted me to submit in writing my rationale for getting a refund.  The big problem here was and is that I still don't know if that was in addition to the original email my assumption was that it was and my goodness I don't appreciate that.  My rationale is that there was a breach of contract and I simply want my money back. I wondered if I was being irrational, so I asked opinion of my supervisor at the SUU tutoring center and she backed my opinion so I felt a little better.  I hope that this doesn't cause too many problems, but it did cause at least a little undue stress.   Blahhh

Crisis

It was interesting to learn about the word crisis on my mission and it applies perfectly to where I am at right now in my life. crisis |ˈkrīsis|
noun ( pl. -ses |-ˌsēz|)
a time of intense difficulty, trouble, or danger : the current economic crisis | a family in crisis | a crisis of semiliteracy among high school graduates.
• a time when a difficult or important decision must be made : [as adj. ] a crisis point of history.
• the turning point of a disease when an important change takes place, indicating either recovery or death.
• the point in a play or story when a crucial conflict takes place, determining the outcome of the plot.

The main definition I had then related to a turning point or fork in the road. A point at which the continuance of a course is in question. We get to a point where our course seems to need alteration and our nature is often one of enjoying comfortable feelings and needing to alter course is often if not always uncomfortable.

Just a little more of my ranting and trying to settle my mind. I have ideas and they seem good, but nothing feels solid to me right now. To much shifting sand.

What Now? (Super Guy's Rant)

Well, as some may know I am preparing for my last semester at SUU. I only have one complication and that is to figure out what in the heck I am going to do after that. I am considering a few options, but none of them is overpowering and I hate the feeling I get when it comes to these points in my life. It is like going to Dairy Queen and wanting a blizzard but not having a favorite flavor. I find myself looking at the options and none seems to stand out, so I end up running around in circles and just wondering what I want. Our fast this sunday is for a better understanding of what to do. I am grateful to actually have a major and a good solid graduation outlook but beyond that I really don't know what is going to happen. Just so you have some idea of the options I am facing the main 2 branches are "get a job" or "grad school" each of those has several options as well so that is only the beginning. I am mostly covering my bases right now and hopefully by the time deadlines start showing up I will be ready to jump on them. I just remembered something else that is a little bit annoying about all this "You can be anything you want to be" that is just the problem people have told me that all my life, but that contains the problem in itself "want" that is the problem I don't "want" to be anything in particular. I have only been able to eliminate things that I don't want or things that I don't feel are the right decision for me. I had the opportunity to go through the seminary teaching classes this last year in institute and although it was something I had wanted it didn't quite feel like the path I am supposed to take so I got put back to square one in some ways. Well, I guess that does it for my freaking out.

Keeping a little more up to date

I don't have much of a stand to make or a commentary to create about anything but yet I am still blogging, kind of strange actually. I guess I could find some soapbox or cause to take up, but I don't have a whole lot to say. Life is pretty good. I have a great wife and a beautiful little baby girl that just keeps getting cuter and cuter. I am going into my last semester of undergraduate work in the fall and then from there who knows, but I have a little more hope than usual that things are going to look up. I am getting some skills for after graduation just to make sure I can get something in the work force either as a career path or to help sustain me through graduate school. Things are good and I guess I just have to keep telling myself to go forward.

Information Overload

I am just one of those guys that is trying to make something of his life and honestly it is pretty crazy out here. I am recently married with a 6 month old daughter. I am trying to finish off my bachelor's degree and then what?? Who knows I would like to go on to graduate school but if I do am I going to be able to take care of my family, not to mention the issues of health insurance, thinking about getting a house and all kinds of other things. It almost seems a better way to go about life would be to get a job and get on with life but it is all too much for me and I wish I knew what I should do. All this comes to a crashing problem during the summer especially this one since I have only one of my part time jobs and I am trying to look at finances and other pieces of out situation. I have thought about other things I might be able to do to get some money "on the side" but lets just say that I am not a business man and although I feel I am quite skillful in many areas I have no idea how to get the positions I might qualify for more importantly I don't know how to find them in the first place. Well, I just feel a little lost sometimes and feel like the information may be available but I am drowning in the fluff trying to find what I am really wanting.

Renaissance man

Well, I am getting a few new skills under my belt this summer so I can be grateful for that although I am working less with school being out. I hope to be able to get some money from a small business venture I am starting up. My daughter Gwendolyn is really cute and my wife and I love her a lot. It can be rough having a baby sometimes but fun none the less, especially when she is smiley. I have been thinking of different ways to make some money during the summer and I have a wide variety of skills and abilities I just need to be able to implement them for a profit now. I'm sure I will figure something out. Here is a picture of our little Gwen.

Trying to post a little something

Things are going well at work if nothing else and I am still learning things about my computer and its functionality I might even start using it to take my notes for class I haven't quite decided yet. Well not much to say I guess

Another day gone by.  Not much happening in my life lately just working and trying to take care of the wife so she has better days than she has had in the past.  She came to sork with me today and stayed out in the hall, it was nice to get to have lunch with her.  Work is pretty crazy the head of the department has been doing some stuff that is pretty crazy.  He just fired one girl and I don't know what else is going to happen with him.  Luckily I am getting out of the department I am only here for the summer then I have some other jobs for the school year.  We will see how it goes.  

Well, here we come to a new place in life.  My wife is pregnant and I am getting ready to embark on my final year of my Bachelors program in Mathematics with my minor in physics things are good, but I am getting worn out by the job I have the early mornings are tough, especially since we have been getting to bed late lately.  We are getting ready for our anniversary next month and we are grateful that we are going to have some financial help for the pregnancy.  I can't wait for the new school year to have my new job and to get back into the study groove.  I am glad things are going well and that we have what we need for now.  I have gotten into a history kick and I am trying to write in a journal and keep records of some web groups I have been a part of things can go very well if we put forth an effort.  I am out of here for now.

I am afraid that this blog will be a terribly boring, but as I start taking more pictures of family I will post them and also give an update of what is happening in life.  My wife and I are doing well and we are coming up on our 1st anniversary.  She has graduated from  college in elementary education and I have one year left to get my Bachelors in Mathematics.  I just got a neat new macbook and all of the features are really nice I have the opportunity to post now from my dashboard and although it may be just that it is a novelty I believe it might make it easier.  Well, I have other things to get to.
